The evidence continues to mount up that Slipknot have recruited drummer Jay Weinberg as their replacement for Joey Jordison. Today a former bandmate of Weinberg Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! - tweeted:

“Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #shitbag”

Weinberg hasn’t had the best track records with bands in recent years, having an inauspicious departure from Madball and an apparently similar exit from Against Me!.

Slipknot have yet to announce the indentities of their new members, though Weinberg has long been rumored to have taken over the drums, while their new bassist is Alessandro ‘Vman’ Venturella.

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor was recently asked about why the band parted ways with drummer Joey Jordison by MetalHammer. Corey Taylor continued to be diplomatic on the topic, offering:

“I can’t talk too much about it because we’re going through the legalities of everything right now and settling everything, but it’s when a relationship hits that T-section and one person’s going one way and you’re going the other. And try as you might to either get them to go your way or try and go their way, at some point you’ve got to go in the direction that works for you. This is me speaking in the broadest terms, with respect to Joey. I guess to sum it up, it was one of the hardest decisions we ever made.”

“We’re all happy right now and we hope that he is. I’ve known him since ’91, and that was before we were in bands together, and he’s incredibly talented; he’s just in a place in his life, right now, that’s not where we are… in the nicest terms.”

When quizzed if drugs were to blame for the split, Taylor had the following to say:

“There’s only so far that I can give an explanation. For me, that has to be a sign of growing up, because before I would’ve just railed at whatever I thought the supposed evil was, but now it’s like, how do you explain to the fans? And that’s the hardest part, because no matter what explanation you give, it’s not gonna make them happy. I’m sure there are fans out there who have their own theories about it…”

Taylor has had little to no interaction with Jordison since the split, telling the magazine:

“I haven’t talked to Joey in a while, to be honest, that’s how different we are. It’s not because I don’t love him and I don’t miss him. And it is painful; we talk about him all the time, but at the same time, do we miss him or do we miss the old him? That’s what it really comes down to. It’s just a fucking shame.”

While the identity of Slipknot‘s new bassist and drummer remains under wraps, band frontman Corey Taylor has revealed that both will be wearing a similar mask. Taylor told Full Metal Jackie:

“We wanted to make something that still looked unified but still stayed with the spirit of what the band is all about. Instead of trying to find something that was individualistic, we designed — well, Clown designed a mask that the drummer and the bass player will both wear. On one hand they get a mask but at the same time, it’s not the individual mask that we in the band use.

We knew that any attempt to do anything like that might be taken as disrespectful, but at the same time it’s part of the way of moving, getting past the hardest steps, which is just moving on. So, we decided that we would come up with a mask that works for both the bassist and the drummer and that’s what they’ll wear on stage.”

Speaking on whether or not making the bands new album “.5: The Gray Chapter” was an uncomfortable experience given the passing of bassist Paul Gray and departure of drummer Joey JordisonTaylor replied:

“I don’t know if it was uncomfortable, but the big difference was that it was the first album that we were doing without Paul, without Joe, and you know when you find yourself in a situation like that you either fall back on your heels or you rise to the occasion and you ask yourself how can we kind of fill in those blanks and still make the kind of music we want to listen to?

So I think that the biggest thing for us was to just fill in some really big shoes. Luckily we really rose to the occasion and really kind of went above and beyond as far as musically. I’m loving this new album. I mean just as not only as a person who’s inSlipknot but just as a fan of music like this. I really love what we’ve done on this album.”

Lamb Of God drummer Chris Adler‘s ambiguous answer to rumors of his involvement in the new Slipknot album certainly didn’t help curb the speculation. Chris Adler has now since offered the following statement that is far more definitive:

“I’ve received even more questions about my involvement with Slipknot since the ABC interview I did recently. The interview was originally about my new whiskey bar, but of course took a turn into the gossip of the day. As I told her, I’ve had and have nothing to do with it. I’m flattered with the association and comparisons, but I have no involvement in their record."

A fan’s theory that Slipknot had enlisted Lamb Of God‘s Chris Adler to handle the drumming on their new album gained traction around the net this week. This was based solely on the perceived similarities in playing styles that were featured on the bands new track, “The Negative One“.

Abcnewsradioonline.com have since put the question to Adler himself, who offered:

"Right now I think silence is golden. Right now I don’t think those guys need me, or need me talking about it. You know, I listened to it and I thought it sounded a little bit like me, too. At the moment, I just don’t recall doing it. I’m getting texts and emails and phone calls about it. for the moment, I don’t know anything about it.”

Slipknot have yet to announce an official replacement for ousted drummer Joey Jordison. Current plans have them releasing their new album in October with a new single from it titled “The Devil In I” to emerge in the coming weeks.
