Singer Corey Taylor #8 is turning his full attention to his other band, SLIPKNOT. With Jim Root, guitarist for both groups, back in Los Angeles writing and demoing material, Corey told The Pulse Of Radio where things stand for the long-awaited record. "Me and Jim have been writing a lot of stuff, and it's really starting to kind of shape up really… I mean, we've got a nice chunk, and now we just kind of need to, you know, shape everything to that SLIPKNOT point of view, that SLIPKNOT way, that SLIPKNOT sound."

He added: "There's an excitement that we haven't felt in a while."

The new SLIPKNOT album will be its first since 2008's "All Hope Is Gone" and the first since the 2010 death of bassist Paul Gray and the recent dismissal of drummer Joey Jordison.

Jim Root told The Pulse Of Radio late last year - before the news about Joey Jordison broke - that he was feeling the urgency to make a new SLIPKNOT album. "You know, we haven't done a record since Paul's been gone and it's been pushing six years. And there's a lot of people in SLIPKNOT and a lot of fans and me myself kind of feel like it's time for that hurdle to be overcome. And for me, that's really like my number one priority and the most important thing for me right now."

Random Sid Quotes
Wearing this mask prevents the oxygen from going to my skull. I get hallucinations and stuff. Half the time, I don't know what's going on around me. Its up to the clown to intimidate me and keep me in line.

I'm at war with myself on stage. Sometimes it scares me.

There might not be a timetable for the release of the next Slipknot record, but it's definitely happening.  It seems the band is kicking "writing mode" into high gear, so much so that guitarist Jim Root had to abstain from his other commitment, touring with Stone Sour this January.

The band posted this statement with the announcement of Jim's absence from touring:

"Everyone involved is okay with the decision and our mutual friend Christian Martucci will be filling in on guitar.

"It was a difficult decision, but as the fans have wanted another Stone Sour tour and Jim had responsibilities to the writing process with Slipknot, we feel this is the best decision where everyone wins."

Joey Jordison has revealed via a Tweet, that he did not quit the band.

He wrote:

"To my fans, friends, and associates… I would like to start the New Year by addressing the recent rumours and speculation regarding my departure from Slipknot. I want to make it very clear that I DID NOT QUIT SLIPKNOT. This band has been my life for the last 18 years, and I would never abandon it, or my fans."

He went on to say that he was "blindsided" by his exit from the group, but that he could not give away any more details concerning his departure. "This news has shocked and blindsided me as much as it has all of you," he continued. "While there is much I would like to say, I must remain silent to further details at this time. I would like to thank you all for your unwavering love and support, and wish everyone a very happy and healthy new year."

Slipknot's Corey Taylor has spoken for the first time about drummer Joey Jordision's decision to quit the band.

It was revealed last week (December 13) that Jordison had parted ways with the group and cited "personal reasons" as the motivation behind his departure, with the band promising to give fans more information in the future.

In his first interview since Jordison's exit, Taylor told Minneapolis radio station 93x "I can't really talk about it right now. It's still so fresh and there's a lot of things going on behind the scenes that people don't know about, so legally and respectfully, I can't say a lot about it.

"I can confirm that we have parted ways with Joey and as soon as we can say something, we will, but we're trying to protect him, trying to protect us, just making sure that we do everything right because that's what we would expect from ourselves and what we would expect from the fans."

Taylor concluded: "I know the fans are chomping at the bit, it's just we can't really say anything right now. It sucks for them and it sucks for us because we have always really prided ourselves in being able to come out and honest with everybody, but there's really nothing we can say right now."
