SLIPKNOT percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan has confirmed to Metal Insider that he and guitarist Jim Root will get together in early February to begin writing new music, but will not book any studio time just yet to start recording the follow-up to 2014's ".5: The Gray Chapter". That disc ended a six-year drought between SLIPKNOT albums during which founding bassist Paul Gray passed away in 2010 and drummer Joey Jordison was dismissed in 2013.

Shawn Crahan said: "The '.5 The Gray Chapter' cycle is over. One hundred and ninety shows, thirty countries, three years. I showed up in L.A. January 3rd, 2013 , I had to leave the tour early because my father-in-law passed away. I missed, like, five shows. I didn't get to end the cycle properly, but that doesn't matter, because I lost my father-in-law."

He continued: "Basically, we are taking until February and Jim Root and I are going to do something different. We are not gonna sit around while everyone goes and does their thing, because everyone does their thing. Some people rest, some people do other bands, whatever. All of us feel, I am talking about everybody — Corey TaylorJim Root — we all feel that for the last twenty years we have been doing it one way, so it would be nice to just like examine the song. So we are going to get together in February and we are going to work with different people, different places, make experiences and take the opportunity to get back into a rehearsal room with a lot of us and jam and not feel like a lot of pressure, like, 'Okay we have to get together and in three months write this album.' We want to spend the next year or so diving into the ability to write songs, and explore what we are to the world as musicians and songwriters. So we are very excited to be doing some things differently. We've got full support from the label and everybody around us, and we are going to dive into some very unique thinking, not unlike anything we have ever done. We are just kind of tired of how the pirate ship has gone. I don't really wanna row the oars anymore I want to be an officer or a general."

With SLIPKNOT closing out the touring cycle for ".5: The Gray Chapter", singer Corey Taylor will be regrouping with his other band, STONE SOUR, to record a new set in early 2017.

Shawn Crahan, meanwhile, is pursuing a career as a feature film director. His first effort, "Officer Downe", arrived in theaters and on-demand platforms on Friday (November 18).

Shawn Crahan said a while back that there's always been room for outside projects within the world of SLIPKNOT. "I feel the 'KNOT has always preached personal freedom," he said. "You know, 'Don't ever judge me.' That's what we do, man. We do what we want, we do as much as we want. We'll go shed light to what we are individually out onto the world and then we'll come together like we always do."

SLIPKNOT drummer Jay Weinberg has posted a picture of him holding his gold plaque for ".5: The Gray Chapter". Check it out below.

".5: The Gray Chapter" sold around 132,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD arrived in stores in October 2014 via Roadrunner.

".5: The Gray Chapter" capped a very turbulent period for the masked rockers in which they dealt with the death of Paul Gray and the firing of drummer Joey Jordison, both longtime members and songwriters. Despite it all, singer Corey Taylor told The Pulse Of Radio he's proud of what the band has accomplished this time out. "The fact that we were able to kind of pull ourselves back up and not only go in and make a really good album, but make an exceptional album, in my opinion, I think it's a testament to just how talented this band is," he said. "It's a testament to how much passion we have for it. It's a testament to how much we're willing to fight to accomplish everything that we want to accomplish. To me, I think it's one of the best albums we've ever made."

Korn have been teasing a new album for months now and the anticipation just hit new heights. Promising their heaviest record in years, the band upped the ante and revealed that Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has provided guest vocals on what will become a “fan favorite” according to guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer.

Speaking with Metal Hammer, Munky said, “We have Corey singing on one track and it’s going to be a fan favorite because he really lets loose. On a heaviness scale of one to 10 with 10 being the 1994 self-titled, this album is a definite nine.”

The axeman went on to detail how guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch‘s return to the band in 2013 has made things easier overall. “When Head came back to us on the last record, it was our way of getting the wheels greased,” Munky detailed, adding, “Now everything is well-oiled and the machine works really well. When Head and I start writing riffs together, we have this endless stream of creativity — we’re like Korn’s yin and yang.”

Head left Korn in 2005, though he said he was asked to rejoin the group every numerous times by the band’s management, telling Rolling Stone“I would do book signings, and they would send someone to say, ‘Hey, it would be cool to have you back one day.’ My daughter would be here, and at 8, 9, 10 years old, she would say, ‘No way, Dad. You can’t go back to that band.’”

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor was filmed knocking a fan's mobile phone out of his hands during a recent gig.

Footage uploaded to the metal band's official Facebook page shows Taylor roaming the stage while performing before spotting a distracted fan looking down at his phone.

The singer approaches the fan and is seen knocking the phone out of his hands before pointing at him. The fan, however, seems to take it in jest, smiling and pointing back.

Watch below.

Fan reaction to the incident appears mixed, with one Facebook user writing, "That's what he gets for playing Pokemon Go at a Slipknot show!"

However, another wrote, "Should he have been on his phone during a Slipknot concert? NO! But it also doesn't give Corey Taylor the right to smack the dude's phone out of his hand, kind of a dick move".

Taylor had previously spoken of his dislike of phones being used at gigs, saying, ""People need to unplug and realise that they're missing their lives".

The frontman has also warned fans not to bring selfie sticks to their shows, saying he would "beat the shit out of you with a cricket bat".
